Lindsay Jay hired as the director of Ambulatory Operations

Lindsay Jay has been hired as the director of Ambulatory Operations for the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior.

Lindsay Avent Jay is a native of Mississippi and graduate of Mississippi State University. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Science in Community Counseling. Lindsay is a National Certified Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, and Board Certified Telemental Health Provider.

After graduating with her Masters in 2007, she accepted a position at UMMC in the Department of Psychiatry. For the past 16 years, she has been an Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior serving in various roles in management, clinical practice, education, and research.

As the Outpatient Clinic Manager and Intake Coordinator Supervisor, she has collaborated with the Medical Director, A.O.D., nursing staff, front desk personnel, and intake coordinators to streamline clinical operations and ensure quality patient care.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked with the outpatient management team to implement telehealth for the first time in the Outpatient Clinic at Riverchase. She was also the primary contact for the Employee Streamlined Psychiatry Referral process during the pandemic. She helped countless employees receive mental health services during an unprecedented and challenging time.

With mental health being one of her passions, she has provided patient care to countless Mississippians. Over the past several years, she has been heavily involved in the Student Counseling Wellness Center where she provided services to UMMC students.

Lindsay has used her clinical background and practice to provide clinical supervision to the psychiatry residents in the Resident Supportive Psychotherapy Clinic. She has worked closely with the Residency Training Program and Medical Student Education in the department. She has been involved in resident and medical student education in the outpatient setting working with hundreds of trainees over the years.

Early in her career at UMMC, she worked with Susan Anand, Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry, and other Faculty in the department on several research presentations and published several journal articles regarding the efficacy of art therapy in mental health.

She has pursued her passion to help and serve others outside of UMMC and around the world since relocating to the area in 2007. She and her husband, John, both volunteer through Pinelake Church. Lindsay also served in leadership roles in programs such as Lifesavers Ministry and Woman to Woman Mentoring. Over the years, she has facilitated small groups for women, single moms, and youth. She served in community projects in residential camps in the United Arab Emirates. She has traveled to Ethiopia and Honduras with her son, Ethan, to participate in food clinics, medical clinics, community service projects, youth programs, and orphanages in order to serve others.
